Privacy policy

YappyPaste collects no data. This page explains what happens to your voice and your text, in plain words.

What we collect

Nothing. YappyPaste has no account system, no analytics, no crash reporter of our own, and no server. We never see your audio, your transcripts, your history, or your usage.

Where your voice is processed

• Apple Speech engine: audio is processed on your Mac using Apple's on-device speech recognition. YappyPaste requests on-device recognition only. Apple's own privacy terms for the Speech framework apply to that system component.
• Whisper engine: audio is processed entirely on your Mac by a locally stored model. It works with the network off.

What is stored on your Mac

• Your dictation history (the text of past dictations) is saved in the app's private container on your Mac so you can search and reuse it. You can delete any entry from the History window at any time. Deleting the app deletes the container.
• Audio is captured to a temporary file during a dictation in Capture mode and deleted as soon as it has been transcribed.
• Your settings (hotkey, engine, panel position) are stored locally.

Network requests

The app makes exactly one kind of network request: if you choose the Whisper engine, it downloads the model files (about 630 MB, CoreML weights) from Hugging Face, where the model is published. That download reveals your IP address to Hugging Face like any download would. No audio, text, or identifier is sent. If you never switch on Whisper, the app never uses the network.

Permissions and why

• Microphone: to hear you while the hotkey is held.
• Speech Recognition: required by macOS to use Apple's on-device engine.
• Accessibility (optional): only if you enable "Type the transcript into the focused app". It is used solely to type the text you dictated at your cursor. Without it, transcripts go to your clipboard.

Purchases

YappyPaste is sold through the Mac App Store. Apple processes payment and, if needed, refunds. We receive no personal information from your purchase.

Children

The app is rated 4+ and collects no data from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the new version will appear here with a new effective date. Because the app collects nothing, we expect changes to be rare and cosmetic.
