Open Settings from the menu bar lips and check the Activation style and the key. Some apps (games, virtual machines) swallow global hotkeys while focused; try in Notes first.
"Type into the focused app" needs the Accessibility permission. System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility → enable YappyPaste. Without it, ⌘V pastes the transcript, which is always on the clipboard if that option is on.
Just dictate. While the model downloads, YappyPaste uses Apple Speech automatically and tells you so in the panel.
Version 1 is tuned for English. Try the Whisper engine, which handles accents and noisy audio better than Apple Speech, and use a headset mic if you can.
Check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and Speech Recognition, and that your input device in System Settings → Sound is the mic you're speaking into. Unplugging and re-plugging a USB mic or AirPods resets it.
